Insight Of The Week: Non-Capitalised Subject Lines

The latest new Subject Line trend…

Lowercase!

To be honest, I love it.

For most brands, their real voice/tone in marketing isn’t as serious as they make it out to be. Drop some capitals, keep it casual.

It’s also a great way to stand out.

If you were emailing a friend, would you Write Everything In Capitals Like This?

No, you wouldn’t.

Although this is a new trend, it is scarce in the inbox. Majority are still writing their subject lines like headlines and capitalising everything.

Great tactic if you’re looking to blend in!

What’s Happening In The Market

Text-based/text-only emails are quickly rising in popularity.

This was a technique I was actually taught by my very first mentor back in 2019/2020.

And I’m glad this style is finally getting the respect it deserves.

If you’re not already using text-based or text-only emails in your strategy, do it.

Text-Based

These are emails that are predominantly text, but still will contain logos and maybe a couple of images (2 max in my opinion).

These are great for engagement, and delivering blog style emails.

Text-Only

These are great for when you want to get really personal.

Emails like this (when done right) can give off the impression that the founder has jumped on to write something. This makes the email seem extremely personal and actually increases the perceived value of the contents immediately, often leading to higher engagement.

The thing with these, is they are fantastic for pattern disruption.

If you’re predominantly sending graphic heavy emails, mixing in some text heavy emails is a great way to stop the reader in their tracks almost out of ‘shock’.

Let me know how you go with these ones!
