How you can recover more Abandoned Carts
+ why it's important
G’day
This edition is dedicated to some questionable abandoned cart + checkout flows I’ve audited in the last week
Here’s what we’ll be diving into today
My 3 best tips for recovering more abandoned carts

How to recover more abandoned carts
3 Easy Tips
If your Ecom store is doing $100K/month in revenue, that usually means there is another $200,000 ish in abandoned carts each and every month
$200,000!!
On average, 70% of orders are abandoned.
If there was a way to magically recover all these carts, you could literally triple your revenue
But, there isn’t
However for most stores, they aren’t recovering as many as they should be (based on what I’m seeing in audits at the moment)
We’ve created flows for stores that recover OVER $10 per recipient.
Here are my 3 best tips for creating good abandonment flows:
Send 3-5 emails, making sure people who haven’t previously purchased are getting all 5
Work out your margins, and how much you’ve already lost on acquisition. You can roughly calculate this by looking at your total marketing spend, and dividing it by the amount of cart adds you have in that month. You can then use this figure to determine a suitable discount that ensures youre still recovering some ad spend
For example, say your only source of traffic is facebook ads, and you’re spending $10,000 per month.
In that month, you had 1000 visitors add items to cart.
It is costing you $10 to get someone to add something to cart.
You need to factor that into your costs when determining a discount. It is in your best interests to recoup some of that $10.
Mix in text-only emails. Every single brand sends the typical “you left something behind!”. Try and get creative and weave in some emails that will disrupt that typical cart recovery process.
Recovering more carts is the quickest way to lower your cost per acquisition, increase your profit margins, and to free up more cash to scale.

Insight Of The Week
What the biggest brands are doing to scale
I’m seeing a lot of common themes across stores that are rapidly scaling in the current market.
Successful brands in 2024 are focusing on these things:
Omnichannel presence
It’s too risky to just source traffic from one platform. Good brands are diversifying and looking to create presence on as many channels as possible
Organic Following
Brands that combine paid advertising efforts with building an organic following are providing themselves with a moat against ad fluctuations
Loyalty/Retention
The last few years of ecommerce has been extremely acquisition focused. But with the rise in competition, retaining customers is vital and that is where a lot of the profits are found. Elite Email/SMS strategies are now non negotiable
Department stores
Lots of brands are actually trying to make the transition back in to department stores
They’re using this as a way to get mass top of funnel attention from consumers
Community
With everyones lives being consumed by the digital world and shit like the metaverse, brands who are focusing on building communities and throwing events in REAL LIFE are giving a refreshing take on marketing to their audience.
This is building insane amounts of loyalty and generating tons of traffic, as ironically these “real life” events make for great social media campaigns
